Nothing beats the holiday season. Spending time with family, sipping eggnog, spinning dreidels and enjoying some heart felt cheer make this time of year very special. In honor of the season, we compiled our favorite holiday jingles to help get you in the spirit!
1. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
This classic holiday jingle was first introduced as part of the musical Meet Me in St. Louis. Written by famous songwriters, Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, the lyrics were slightly modified for Frank Sinatra in the 50s. This is the version that has become synonymous with the holiday season.
2. Frosty the Snowman
Frosty is in the running for most iconic Xmas character along with Rudolph, The Grinch and Ol’ St. Nick himself. Although we give Frosty extra points for having his very own theme song and most importantly for distancing himself from his cousin, Jack.
3. The Chanukah Song
“Tell your friend Veronica it’s time to celebrate Hanukkah - I hope I get a harmonica - on this lovely, lovely Hanukkah.”
4. It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Written by Edward Pola and George Wyle. These guys knew a thing or two about writing catchy tunes. Wyle also gave us the theme song to Gilligan's Island. This wonderful song was originally recorded and released as part of pop singer Andy Williams’ first Christmas album.
5. Blue Christmas
This tune was first written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson in the late 40s. But Elvis cemented “Blue Christmas” as an all-time jingles classic from the 1950s.
6. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is another classic Christmas movie and iconic holiday song!
7. Jingle Bell Rock
Bobby Helms released this jingle to great acclaim in 1957. With it’s electric guitar opening, this became a hipper alternative to the standard “Jingle Bells”. Listen to the radio anytime during the holidays and you’ll be sure to hear it!
8. Santa Claus is Coming to Town
This classic Christmas song was first heard on Eddie Cantor’s radio show in 1934. This is the version sung by the great Fred Astaire in the 1970 animated movie of the same name.
9. Let It Snow
This is one of the most popular and best selling holiday jingles of all time. It has been covered countless times over the years from Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra to Jewel to Michael Bubble.
10. All I Want For Christmas Is You
Mariah Carey co-wrote and co-produced this infectious song with Walter Afanasieff in 1994. This song became an instant classic/ Christmas standard and seems to become more popular every year.
